A day of small things yesterday. Well, one big thing, which is a book I have been struggling to edit and is going very slowly and I would very much like to finish it and never think about it again. Then, an approach from an organization I’d worked for in the past for a small contract but a notable one as I had had to suspend working with them for a few years due to a potential conflict of interest which is now gone. Then, in the evening, I was so sick of that book I went off with my aunt to Liberty where I bought a few storage bags, and then took her to coffee and cake. Returned home, had dinner (haleem from Garhi Shahu) and then bed. It is very very hot these days, to the extent that I put on the air conditioner for a little while, but to no avail. It cooled the room while it was on, but when I turned it off and turned off the light, by the time I was asleep it was as hot as before and I was drenched in sweat. I shan’t bother again.
The leadership campaign in the UK is profoundly depressing. It’s a time of true global and national crisis, and the candidates (and media and party) are off on their own venal tangents, while Boris is on holiday as the Bank of England warns of the worst economic conditions in quite a while. Meanwhile in Pakistan the politics are so vile I want to vomit before typing anything about them. And the earth burns, and we’re responsible but not taking responsibility. Another matter that is not a small thing.
